Acording to Mabel Ross
writer of the "Enclyclopedia of Handspinning"
"The Alpaca is a member of the Llama family which
has been domesticated for 2000 years and bred principally for the excellent
coat of soft fibers used traditionally for the weaving of clothing and
blankets and found in the high plateau of the Andes in Bolivia, Chile and
Peru between 12,000foot and the
snow line.
There are two types; Huacaya, and Suri,
